Southampton should have an Armed Forces Day event.

In May 2016, a couple of us from Southampton AFVBC presented a deputation to the Council saying that the City should have an Armed Forces Day event. They agreed and told us to set up a community group to organise it, and I somehow ended up as Committee Secretary. Fast forward 14 months, all the planning came together and we had an overwhelmingly successful day,

starting with a parade of serving armed forces, veterans and cadets, followed by entertainment in Guildhall Square. My role on the day was to coordinate the volunteers, so after their briefing I was able to take part in the parade, then I spent the afternoon answering queries on the Breakfast Club stand. I gave myself the following day off (as it was my birthday!) then cracked on with Planning for next year!  (Article submitted by Kate Wood)
